pure boy


This weekend Nate and Chris were completely 'boy'. On Friday, Dan bought them their first baseball gloves. They were soooo excited and worked on learning how to roll the ball right into the glove. They also wore baseball jerseys that they had received for their birthday. They were in hog heaven. Chris was also searching for bugs. Between the two of them packing their new gloves, lying on the concrete searching for critters, and their number shirts, I could hardly stand it. They're growing up so fast!


They also helped with the finishing touches on their new tree house. They helped drill, weave the rope, add the flag, telescope, and pirate wheel. What a great space for their 3 year old imaginations. Good work, dad.

Fishing!



We took Nate and Chris fishing at a trout farm on Sunday. It was great fun, and we caught 8 fish! Daddy put the worms on the hook, and pulled the hook out, but the boys did all the reeling.

The old lady clobbered and cleaned the fish (Chris did not like that!), then grandma fried them. Both boys ate some of the fish, Nate was more fond of it than Chris.

We will definitely go fishing there again! This is the stuff that memories are made of.

Easter


Happy Easter! We went over to Mark and Claudine's house, where we were joined by the Cotter family, Uncle Greg, G'ma, and G'pa, and Sookie. It was a good time. The boys LOVED finding the eggs. Can you say sugar?

Nate---"I have idea! I make 1,2,32,4,5,6,7,8,9,10, 12, 13, 15, 17, 18, 22, 23, 24, 26, purple donuts!" (o.k., great idea. Chris?)

Chris---"I have idea! I make 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 10, 11, 12, 14, 15, 18, 20, 21, 26, 15, 19 muffins and cookies"

o.k., great idea. Good night, I love you!

Hansel and Gretel

Our new obsession around here is Hansel and Gretel. The boys saw the Little Einstein's version on T.V. which has a 'scary' green witch. (she's actually quite smiley and funny) Anyway, whenever it comes on, they go crazy WANTING to watch the witch, NOT WANTING to watch the witch. It's hysterical.
So we went to the library yesterday to find the book of Hansel and Gretel. Nate marched right up to the librarian in the children's section. "Hansel and Gretel!" he said to her. She searched and found a rather scary copy. Chris and Nate wanted it nonetheless, so we brought it home. Unlike the t.v. version, this one has the scary, old, hunched-over lady with long crooked fingers. (I remember being scared of her as a child, too) Chris was especially freaked out by the book, and on the way home, all he kept saying was "talk about the lady!" When we 'read' it together on the couch (well, look at the pictures and make up a bit nicer story than was written), Chris would literally turn his back and look the other way.......then turn around to take yet another peek at the old lady. He WANTED to see the old lady, then DIDN'T WANT to see the lady.
We'll continue to work through this one.

This morning I found Nate in our bedroom lying down on our bed flapping his arms and legs as big as he could make them. "Oh neat, Nate, you're making snow angels!" (knowing he had fun making them in the snow that we had in January) "No!" he shot back....."I making bed angels!"

when i be a man........

Nate, Chris and I were heading downstairs for bathtub time and Chris was having some deep thoughts. He let me know that when he is a man, he is going to have short hair. He will take showers. He will climb ladders. He will use spicy toothpaste. Typical man things.

Nate chimed in later and said that when he gets to man status, he will pull the rope in the blue ball room at OMSI. Now that's a real man for sure.

chalk on the sidewalk

chalk on the sidewalk.. Once the sun finally came out today, the boys and I set out to play with chalk on the sidewalk. Everyone loves to do the ol' body trace with chalk, right? Well, each boys laid down on the sidewalk and stretched his body out as big as it could get. I traced around arms, legs, feet, and head. The shape pretty much resembled their size.So, what's a 3 year old boy to do but start drawing the body parts! Chris started with a belly button in the form of a round O right in the middle of his chest area. Then he exclaimed "I need to draw my penis!" Before I could remind him that it is his private part, and not to draw one where everyone can see, he drew a proportionate line right where it needed to go. His chalk body had a penis. "I have a penis!" he shouted once again. So proud, so happy.Nate was heading over to draw one for himself on his chalk guy, but I was able to interject before he drew 'the line'. Instead, mama drew some underwear on his chalk body. Keeping those privates private. :)I saw some people walking while we were eating dinner tonight. I doubt they even noticed the fine details on our chalk bodies. 3 year old boys are so much fun.

rainy portland day

Today Dan and I took the boys to the zoo. It was really rainy, so it was kind of a quick trip. Nate and Chris wore their new rain coats from Auntie Leann, and they were perfect! They really are such cute boys. They're growing up so fast.
